Dealerships may be Selling Dodge Hellcats They Can’t Deliver
Dodge has a pretty good track record when it comes to pushing out affordable and surprisingly high-performance vehicles. These are the kind of fun-to-drive cars that car insurance was made for, and it shows. They market their larger vehicles as powerful tools that can take on any job imaginable, and their smaller, more aerodynamic models carry the promise of unbridled freedom and blinding speeds. Whether their claims and hype hold up is for consumers and critics to decide, but judging by the frantic demand for their newest line of high-performance vehicles, it looks like there are plenty of people out there with a strong appreciation for Dodge’s vehicles.
The consumer demand for the new Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats is incredible, and while that may be an excellent thing for Dodge, it’s a situation that car dealerships may exploit to their own advantage. With these risks now present, the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group) has issued a warning to customers, cautioning them against dealerships that may be taking orders that they have no ability to fulfill.
In a blog post by the Auburn Hills company, they explain the situation by reassuring customers that the vast majority of dealers are doing everything correctly. The chances are slim that you’ll be buying your car from a dealer who can’t sell it to you, but, “… This handful of dealers appears to have accepted large numbers of SRT Hellcat orders without regard to available supply and without advising their customers that orders may not be filled, if at all, for many months or longer.”

- Also ask if that deposit is refundable and know your dealer’s and state’s policy for deposit refunds.
- Ask where you are on the waiting list, as well as how many orders are currently pending.
- Ask when you can expect your order to be fulfilled.
The sudden and remarkable demand for the Hellcat may be coming out of left field for some, but the car’s performance statistics more than justify the rush. The first of these two vehicles is the $59,995 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The cheaper and lighters of the duo, the Challenger, sports performance that dwarfs every other vehicle in its price range thanks to a supercharged 707 horsepower Hemi engine.
The Challenger’s more expensive and roomy counterpart, the Charger SRT Hellcat, is an absolute beast. With optional seating for four and a more aerodynamic shape, the Charger is actually capable of 204mph top speeds, beating the Challenger out by 5mph despite being 100 pounds heavier.
