Lemonade Day Helps Children Learn How to Make Money, not just Spend Money
Entrepreneurship reinforces the value of hard work. If you don’t work; you don’t eat! And what parent doesn’t want to instill the value of hard work in their children, in hopes that one day, they too, will learn to make, manage and budget their own money towards their own success? With Lemonade Day, children have the opportunity to run their own business and learn valuable entrepreneurial skills that will last them a lifetime.
What is Lemonade Day?
Founder and entrepreneur, Michael Holthouse’s vision to empower today’s youth to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, has helped kids start, own and operate their own business…a lemonade stand. With the help of partners like Google, Lemonade Day has taught inspiring children everywhere, the value of entrepreneurship. The purpose of this program is to encourage responsibility, build self-esteem and create new mindsets that propel today’s youth towards a path of success they might otherwise not have chosen.
This 14 step strategic process walks kids through their dreams from just an idea to an actual business plan, incorporating the same principles required to start a big company. Kids work hard at running their own stand and make a profit. With this profit, they are taught to spend some, save some and share some by giving back to their community.
Lemonade Day was launched in Houston, Texas in 2007, and has since grown from 2,700 kids in one city to over 200,000 youth in all cities across the country.
How to Become a Lemonade Day Chicago Participant
Youth of all ages are encouraged to participate in Lemonade Day Chicago. Simply, register to receive their free entrepreneurial book and yellow backpack. In fact, the entire community is invited to join in on Lemonade Day. The program is always in need of volunteers, mentors, sponsors, and businesses to provide safe stand locations and customers to purchase cool, refreshing lemonade from youth entrepreneurs on this exciting day!
